On behalf of the children and staff of Holy Cross Catholic Primary School we would like to welcome you to our year 5 class page. We take great pride in developing every child to learn in their own unique way on one seamless learning journey.
We are committed to providing an excellent service to our community, which is achieved through an inspiring curriculum where our young people are motivated to learn and strong working relationships are built with all our families through positive partnerships.
Holy Cross is dedicated to a foundation of core learning skills:
These are woven through all we do in order to provide a secure, safe and happy learning environment for our young people. Together we aim to provide an educational journey that will nurture a love of learning, encourage children to make positive impact on the lives of others and develop the knowledge, skills and values to engage with the world now and in the future.
Our website contains a wealth of information for you to explore. However, we know and respect the uniqueness of all children, so if you cannot find what you are looking for on our class page, I encourage you to contact myself via the school office or via class dojo.
With every good wish.
Welcome to Year 5!
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all enjoyed your half term break and the chance to meet family and friends over this period. It has been fantastic having the children back in class and starting our new topics. They have come back focused and ready to learn – which is wonderful. Though it is hard to believe that we are already in term 6!
Term 6 is bursting with exciting events beginning the launch of our ‘Who were the Ancient Greeks?’ topic. Our new power of reading book ‘Odysseus’ is packed full of adventures and mythical creatives whilst in our topic sessions we will be learning about all things Ancient Greece, from the first ever Olympics to the beginnings of democracy. For more information on our topics, please refer to the topic web on the back of this letter.
I will continue to update class dojo with photos of our learning, activities we have done and any information you need. Please check it regularly for any changes. As always if you have a concern or you would like to get in touch, please do send me a message on class dojo.
Finally, I would like to say thank you for the support of both myself and the children this year. If you do have any questions or would like some more information on anything, please message me on Class Dojo.
Our P.E days are staying the same this term – Thursday and Friday’s. On a Thursday the children will be taken by Miss Dallimore for orienteering and on a Friday, I will take the children for Athletics. Please ensure the children wear their P.E kits to school on these days. They will also need a water bottle that is clearly labelled. P.E kits consist of: a white polo shirt, black joggers/shorts and black daps. As the weather is becoming increasingly warmer, we need to ensure the children have the correct protection so sun cream is vital and must clearly be labelled and also a hat.
As the weather warms, please ensure that children do have appropriate layers and sun protection, sun cream should be in a bottle clearly labelled. It is important that the children do not share sun cream due to potential allergies/ reactions. Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
