Message from Mrs Kingston We have noticed increasing levels of playground chat about the game Fortnite— Battle Royale which is a PEGI 12+ gun battle game which requires players to work as a team. The main risks to children are interacting with strangers and also making costly in-app purchases. If your child is talking about Fortnite, please follow this link to find out more about it. https:// fortnite-battle-royal-parents-guide-keepkids-safe-gaming/

Welcome to year 5!

What is happening in Term 5?

I hope you had a lovely half term break. Term 6 is bursting with exciting events beginning the launch of our ‘Ancient Greek’ topic. Our new power of reading book ‘Odysseus’ is packed full of adventures and mythical creatives whilst in our topic sessions we will be learning about all things Ancient Greece, from the first ever Olympics to the beginnings of democracy. We are looking forward to bringing the topic to life with a workshop from Bristol Classics Hub.

Other exciting events taking place this term include International Week, beginning Monday 10th June. The children will have opportunities to take part in activities and workshops linked to different Latin American countries, culminating in an International Week assembly on Friday 14th.

Year 5 have been invited to take part in a science morning at St Bernadette Secondary School on Thursday 20th June. They will be conducting a forces experiment in the science labs.

Key Dates

  • Mon 10th June: International Week
  • Thurs 20th June: Science workshop at St Bernadette secondary school
  • Tue 25th June: Ancient Greek workshop from Bristol Classics Hub
  • Fri 19th July: End of Term

PE sessions will take place both indoors and outdoors on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at all times and that items are clearly labelled. Their kit should consist of: a white polo, black joggers and black daps.

My PPA time takes place on Monday afternoons.

Homework is sent home every Friday and alternates between comprehension, writing and maths. It should be returned by the following Wednesday. Children will also have weekly spelling and times table’s homework. A termly overview of these can be found in both your child’s homework book and on the year 5 class page of the schools website.

And finally….

If you wish to speak to me about anything concerning your child please do not hesitate to do so.  You are welcome to visit us on Thursday mornings from 8:40am for 'stay and read' or 'stay and count'.

Thank you for your support.
