Welcome to Year 5!
What is happening in Term 3?
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. This term our topic will be all about the history of theatre. This links to our new power of reading book, Macbeth. The children are excited to learn more about William Shakespeare and his plays. For more details about our term 3 curriculum, please see the curriculum web (overleaf).
Due to the cold weather, please do ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate warm clothing.
As always, please do continue to catch me at the end of the school day if you would like to speak to me about anything during the term. You are also very welcome to join us each Thursday morning from 8.40am for our ‘stay and read’ or ‘stay and count’ sessions.
9th/ 16th/ 23rd – Football league competition
31st Jan – Year 5 Class assembly
5th Feb – Year 5 trip and workshop at the Hippodrome

Year 5 will not be swimming this term due to the continuation of work at the swimming pool. Once we have an update on the matter we will inform you.
PE sessions will take place on Thursday and Friday afternoons and will be taught by the sport coaches. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at all times and that items are clearly labelled. Their kit should consist of: a white polo, black joggers and black daps. This term we will have dodgeball (outside) and Dance (inside).
Homework is sent home every Friday and alternates between comprehension, writing and maths. It should be returned by the following Wednesday. Children will also have weekly spelling and times table’s homework. A termly overview of these can be found in both your child’s homework book and on the year 5 class page of the schools website.
Attendance and Punctuality
Thank you for supporting us in ensuring that your child is in school and on time. Where possible it is important that children attend school regularly and punctually for the start of the school day.
