Welcome to year 5! I hope you had a good summer. The children have settled in brilliantly and are already showing a wonderful, positive attitude to their learning.
This term we will be doing PE on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Children need to wear blue/black shorts and a plain white T-shirt (no logos). They should also bring sensible outdoor shoes as weather permitting we will be doing Tag rugby this term. When the weather is bad we will be doing dance in the hall in bare feet. Children with shoulder length hair must have it tied up and all jewellery must be removed.
Homework will be set on a Friday to be returned on Wednesday. Children will be set either a piece of English or a maths task to complete and spellings for a test on Wednesday. Please continue to read with your child as often as possible. There will be prizes for children who complete 10 book reviews!
Don’t forget you can make an appointment to see me after school on any day except Thursday if you have any concerns. Also you are welcome to visit us on Thursday mornings from 8:40 for stay and read or stay and count.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support of Holy Cross. I am looking forward to working with you and your children throughout the year.
Today Year 5 held their class assembly on the theme of treating others as you would like to be treated. We told a Muslim story about a poor man who was treated unfairly. We thought about how the same message is delivered to us in the Bible. Through this story we are also showing how to carry out the corporal works of mercy, in the year of Mercy, by supporting those less fortunate than ourselves.
After assembly, the children served coffee and cake to their parents and carers as part of our MacMillan coffee morning. It was fantastic to see so many visitors enjoying the cakes the children had made. Together we raised £125.50 Thank you for all your support.
Please see the photos below of our assembly and the coffee morning.
