27th February - Friday 3rd March

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next week we will be celebrating World Book Day in school. This is a great week to promote reading both at home and in school. To help us to do this and to encourage a love of reading, there are a few activities we will be running both inside and out of school.

‘Get lost in a good book’

This first activity is for you to complete at home. We would like you to send in photos of your child/ren reading a book – so involved and immersed that they don’t notice what is happening around them. Perhaps they are reading at the park, at the dinner table or even in a den! Get creative and it would be great to send the photos to your class teacher on Dojo. A prize will be awarded for the most creative photo showing the power of a good book!

Pyjama Day

To help develop the habit of get comfy and cosy to read, we invite children to come into school dressed in their PJs on Monday 27th February with perhaps a teddy, cushion or favourite blanket. On this day, children across the school will get the opportunity to drop everything and read with children from different year groups.

Book Project

In school, each class will take part in a book project. Every class teacher will have selected a book in which all of children’s learning will be centred around.

Dress up as your favourite character

On Friday 3rd March we are inviting the children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. There are lots of ideas of home made and DIY costumes on the internet. A prize will be given for the best dressed in both KS1 and KS2.

Book Swap

On Friday 3rd March, children are invited to bring in a book that they have already read or no longer need. They are welcome to swap it with another book from someone else in their class.

Book Breakfast

All children and parents are invited for a special stay and read session in the hall on Friday 3rd. There will be breakfast available for all and we invite parents to stay to read with their child. The PTFA will also set up a second-hand book stall so please donate any unwanted books and remember to bring some change!

Library Visit

On Monday 6th March, KS2 classes will be lucky enough to visit Bedminster library. They will have a story read to them and the opportunity to explore some of the books that the library has to offer. Classes will sign up for their own library card and borrow some books.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Fitzgerald.
