Welcome to Year 4
Taught by Miss Ormsby
Welcome to Year 4!
I hope you all had a relaxing, entertaining and healthy summer holiday. The children are extremely excited about the coming year, as am I. The children made a wonderful start to the year and I am very pleased with their attitudes to learning. A few key dates and bits of information for your attention:
PE this term will be on a Monday and Thursday please ensure all children have their kits. Also, please ensure all clothing is labelled and children have the correct PE kit this should consist of: a white polo shirt, black joggers or shorts and black daps. Please also ensure all children have a water bottle with them.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and is to be returned the following Wednesday each week will follow the same format as shown below however there will be a rotation between Mathematics, reading comprehension and a writing task.
Year 4 Homework
Given: September 2016
Due back: September
Maths: In your books you will find a coded 100 square. This hundred square is written in code. It starts with one and ends with a hundred. Can you build it up?
Once you’ve built it back up can you explain how you solved the puzzle?
Spellings: Please practice the Year 3/ 4 common exception words. It would also be helpful if you could practice words ending in “sure” – pressure, measure, closure.
KIRFs: Please practice your KIRFs this term the focus in knowing your number facts/ bonds to 100.
Reading: Remember to read every night and write in your reading record if you want to get better at reading and earn those dojos.
I am in the process of booking some fantastic trips for Year 4 for the whole year. Once I have these dates arranged I will let you know the cost. If you have any concerns about the costs of trips please do come and see me and we can come to an arrangement. I do appreciate the costs of trips can be high but I wouldn’t ask you to pay if I didn’t think the trip was worth it.
Times tables and Spellings:
At the end of Year 4 the children are expected to know and be able to apply their times tables up to and including 12 x 12. Please ensure they are working on these daily, we will be having a times table test three times a week in school and I will monitor their progression.
Each week I will send out a spelling list for children to learn please also ensure they are practicing these daily, just 5 to 10 minutes a day will really help with their recall and application of the spellings and their patterns.
Thank you for your support. If you do wish to speak to be about anything concerning your child then please do not hesitate to do so.
