Welcome back Year 4!

I hope you all had a relaxing, entertaining and healthy half term. The children are extremely excited about the coming term, as am I. The children made a wonderful start to the year and I am very pleased with their attitudes to learning and effort.  A few key dates and bits of information for your attention:

Lantern Parade:

Year 4 have the wonderful task of creating the lantern for this year’s lantern parade. The parade will be on Saturday 9th December and it would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible at the event to celebrate the children’s work and help support our school.

Alongside this we have two days where Alan May will be in school helping to create the large lantern and support the children with making the smaller lanterns. This will take place on the 27th and 28th of November, if any of you are free to offer some help in the afternoons this would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help, please let me know asap.

PE this term will be on a Monday and Thursday please ensure all children have their kits. Also, please ensure all clothing is labelled and children have the correct PE kit this should consist of: a white polo shirt, black joggers or shorts and black daps. Please also ensure all children have a water bottle with them.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and is to be returned the following Wednesday each week will follow the same format as shown below however there will be a rotation between Mathematics, reading comprehension and a writing task.

I am in the process of booking some fantastic trips for Year 4 for the whole year. Once I have these dates arranged I will let you know the cost. If you have any concerns about the costs of trips please do come and see me and we can come to an arrangement. I do appreciate the costs of trips can be high, but I wouldn’t ask you to pay if I didn’t think the trip was worth it.

Times tables and Spellings:

At the end of Year 4 the children are expected to know and be able to apply their times tables up to and including 12 x 12. Please ensure they are working on these daily, we will be having a times table text three times a week in school and I will monitor their progression.

Each week I will send out a spelling list for children to learn please also ensure they are practicing these daily, just 5 to 10 minutes a day will really help with their recall and application of the spellings and their patterns.

Thank you for your support. If you do wish to speak to be about anything concerning your child, then please do not hesitate to do so.

Kind regards,
