Usually during the month of May, we would have a big focus on Spring time and thinking about all the joys that come with it. May is traditionally the month when children in Year 3 would make their First Holy Communion. We would always have celebrated Mary, the mother of Jesus, during this month. We would have had a special May altar with a lovely Spring flower procession, to celebrate her. We would have had special assemblies and songs dedicated to Mary. We would usually have had a blue cloth on our RE prayer station as this is the colour associated with Mary.
Unfortunately, this obviously cannot happen this year, so instead, I would like to ask you to do something for me....
I would like to make a video of how the children celebrate May, the month of Mary, at home.
I am sending through some resources on here and I will also put them on the school website if that is easier for you all to access.
What I would like for you to do, if possible, is to hold a May procession at home.
Can you use the assembly I am sending, to talk to the children about Mary? Show them the pictures, tell them about the Hail Mary prayer and get them to say it for you (They should be familiar with it from assembly). I am sending a stained glass picture of Mary for them to colour, if this isn't possible, they can draw a picture of her or draw some Spring flowers?
Can you present some flowers to the picture of Mary or if you have a statue, or a cross, present them to that. Then you can use the attached prayer service to have a short service, coming together as one family, God's family.
There are lots of songs that we can use at this time: Ave Maria, Let it Be (The Beatles), As I Kneel Before You, Queen of the May.
I am going to gather all the pictures/videos that you and the rest of the school send in and put them all together so that we can have a virtual May procession this year.
Stay safe everyone and God Bless You.
